Protesting Wrestlers Ask Why Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Is Not Arrested Yet; What UP Wrestling Association Has To Say In This Matter?

New Delhi: Wrestlers protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar are demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of Wrestling Federation of India. The wrestlers are on strike for the second time since April 23. Protests are being held under the leadership of Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik. These wrestlers have made serious allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh like sexual exploitation and 'dictatorial attitude'. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has called these allegations baseless.

Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this matter on the instructions of the Supreme Court. The wrestlers have filed a petition in front of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate for immediate investigation on the two FIRs registered in this case. But protesting wrestlers have asked why WFI chief is not arrested yet.

Some players, opposition parties, khap panchayats and farmer organizations are supporting these wrestlers. Meanwhile, a minor wrestler has recorded her statement before the magistrate under section 164 of CrPC.

Why other wrestlers of Haryana not coming to support protesting wrestlers: Prem Mishra

However, if Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association General Secretary Prem Mishra is to be believed then the protest against Brij Bhushan Singh is because of the rules implemented by him. He said the protest is wrong because he helps every player.

Mishra says, “They have a college, where thousands of girls study. There are many girls from UP in wrestling, but no one has made such allegations. This is an attempt to defame a person. Why other wrestlers of Haryana are not coming to support the female wrestler sitting at Jantar Mantar."

He cites the rules implemented by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh as the reason for the protest.

Prem Mishra explains, "Earlier players used to give trials directly instead of coming to the camp for selection in the India team, but Brij Bushan Singh felt that this did not give a chance to good players."

Mishra said, "Suppose, a player qualifies for the Olympics in the 65 kg weight category in wrestling, then this player will have to compete with the player who has won the national level in the same weight category. If the player qualified for the Olympics loses in this, then he will be given a chance for the trial again after 15 days.

Only after the victory in this trial, the player qualified for the Olympics will be able to join Team India.

Prem Mishra asks whether this is a wrong process? Is it wrong to give chance to the players according to their talent by making this rule? He claims that the protesting players are angry because of this.

Varun Kumar, who came after winning a silver medal in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Melbourne, says that he has been associated with wrestling since 2007.

He says that Brij Bhushan Singh insisted on discipline in the camps and has also taken action many times, which these players did not like.

Why Brij Bhushan is not arrested: Wrestlers

Meanwhile, Bajrang Punia said there are many FIRs against Brij Bhushan. But he has not been arrested.

Punia said a committee was formed earlier. It contained Brij Bhushan's people, it worked according to his wishes, Punia said, referring to the government panel that probed the allegations against Brij Bhushan. The government is yet to make the panel report public.

Punia said the committee gave him a clean chit.

On the other hand, Vinesh Phogat said seven girls have given complaint. If FIR was filed under Pocso Act, then interrogation should take place. Why is Brij Bhushan not arrested, Phogat asked.

Why is he being treated differently? We do not trust the police, she said.
