Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar has resigned from the post of party president. He announced this in Mumbai today.
Now this question is arising in the party and there is a discussion in the political circles that who will get this throne after Pawar. It is not known whom Pawar is going to hand over this throne. But it is widely believed Ajit Pawar could hold the post.
Supriya Sule is not considered a challenge to Ajit
Although Sharad Pawar's immediate replacement was not announced, the installation of Ajit Pawar as his uncle's political heir appears almost certain. Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is hardly seen as a challenger to her cousin although Sharad Pawar said a party panel would be formed which will guide the future course of action.
Re-think his decision in 2-3 days: Ajit Pawar
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar said we told him (Sharad Pawar) that the workers are quite upset. We also told him that party workers want him to remain the party president along with having a working president. He said he will rethink his decision and needs 2-3 days, Ajit Pawar told reporters as he held talks with protesting party workers in Mumbai.
Ajit had ditched Sharad and joined hands with BJP
Ajit Pawar was deputy CM in the former MVA government. He has never concealed his chief ministerial ambitions. In 2019 Maharashtra elections, BJP emerged as the single largest party. At that time Ajit had ditched Sharad Pawar to go and form a government with BJP and even took oath as deputy CM with Devendra Fadnavis as CM. The BJP however lost the trust vote.
