Wrestlers should end dharna and wait for investigation report: Anurag Thakur


Lucknow: Union Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Anurag Thakur has appealed to the wrestlers protesting against Braj Bhushan Singh, President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, to wait for the report of the fair investigation being conducted by Delhi Police in this matter.


Talking to reporters after the logo, mascot, jersey, anthem and torch launch of Khelo India University Games 2022 at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Thakur said that the government has fulfilled all the legitimate demands of the protesting wrestlers. On the demand of the players, the government constituted the committee. Delhi Police registered an FIR and fair investigation is on. The Supreme Court has also given its decision in this matter.


He said that the government has so far fulfilled all the demands of the wrestlers. He requests the players to end the sit-in protest and wait for the Delhi Police's investigation report, in which truth will come out. Delhi Police will take appropriate action within the purview of the law.


Thakur said that the Modi government has always given priority to sports and sportspersons, as a result of which India is performing brilliantly in every field of sports. Indian players won four gold medals in the Women's World Boxer Championship. Excellent performance in badminton. The government has increased the sports budget from Rs 964 crore to Rs 3340 crore.
