Madhya Pradesh: Mini Truck Carrying 50 Falls Into River In Datia, 5 Bodies Recovered, Toll Could Rise


Datia: A mini truck fell into the river in Datia, Madhya Pradesh. There were about 50 laborers in the mini truck. Over 12 people have reportedly died in the accident. The bodies of five have been taken out. Of these, 3 bodies are of children. The death toll could rise as many are missing.


The accident took place in village Buhara under Dursada police station at around 3 am on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday. The truck was crossing the bridge when it lost control and overturned. A team of 12 people from NDRF and SDERF is engaged in the rescue.


According to the information received from the police, the laborers were going from Bheleti village of Gwalior to a wedding in Jatara village of Tikamgarh in a truck. The retrieved bodies have been taken to the district hospital. It is being told that the bridge is under construction. Collector Sanjay Kumar, SP Pradeep Mishra, SDM are present on the spot.


Several children missing after accident


"Late last night, when the truck reached Buhara village, its wheel slipped into a nearby river. A 65-year old woman, a 18-year old man and three children between the ages of two-three years were among those killed. Rescue operation is still underway," Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said.


Twenty-four people have been injured while several children are reportedly missing after the accident.


Narottam Mishra said an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. The injured will be given a compensation of Rs 50-50 thousand.


The victims were residents of Gwalior's Bilheti village who were headed to Jatara in Tikamgarh for the marriage of their daughter.
