Bhopal: A case of tiger poaching has come to the fore in the Tiger State of Madhya Pradesh. Poachers hunted the tiger by entering the core area of Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR). They cut off his head and took it with them.
On June 26, the tiger's carcass was found in a mutilated condition at Dabra Dev Beat in Churna range of STR. Its head was cut. The officers kept hiding this incident of hunting for three days. There is a possibility of cutting the head of the tiger for the purpose of tantra-mantra.
On Wednesday night, STR's deputy director Sandeep Fellows confirmed the tiger's poaching to media. He told that the tiger's head has been cut off. Tiger Strike Force is probing the matter. The team of STF and STR is also interrogating some suspects.
Tiger had been living in the area for a long time
The mutilated carcass of the tiger found on June 26 was about 5-7 days old. Searching was done in the surrounding area with the help of dog squad. But no evidence related to the death of the tiger was found.
The Forest Department conducted the post-mortem of the dead body and cremated it. The tiger had been living in this area for a long time by making its territory. The officials have conceded that the tiger has been poached. STF has started investigation after inspecting the spot. Search is on in some villages including Bhatna adjacent to STR. Interrogation of some suspects is also going on.
A tiger was killed a few months back as well
A tiger was killed in STR a few months back as well. 5 months ago some poachers were caught by STR and STF from Betul and Chhindwara. The tiger hide was recovered. There was also a teacher among the hunters.
