Cancer-related Drugs, Medicines For Rare Diseases To Be Exempt From GST



In the 50th meeting of the Goods and Service Tax i.e. GST Council it has been approved to exempt GST on the import of cancer drug Dinutuximab (Quarziba) when imported for personal use.


It has been decided to exempt IGST on Medicines and Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) used in the treatment of rare diseases enlisted under the National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021 when imported for personal use subject to existing conditions. 


Similarly, IGST exemption is also being extended to FSMP when imported by Centres of Excellence for Rare Diseases or any person or institution on recommendation of any of the listed Centres of Excellence.


GST on food and beverages in cinema halls reduced


Approval has also been given to the recommendation to reduce the GST levied on the food and beverages in cinema halls. Now they will attract 5% GST instead of 18%. 


GST on uncooked food reduced


It has been decided to impose 22% cess on SUV, MUV. Sedan cars have been kept out of the purview of 22% cess. GST on uncooked snacks has been reduced from 18% to 5%.


GST on LD slag and fly ash reduced from 18% to 5%. GST on imitation and zari thread has been reduced from 12% to 5%. GST exemption has been given on satellite launch service by private companies.


28% tax on online gaming, horse racing and casinos


It was decided on Tuesday to impose 28% tax on online gaming, horse racing and casinos. Till now they were taxed at 18%. The Government has treated Game of Skill and Game of Chance as one and the same
