Madhya Pradesh Kuno Cheetah Project: Tiger's Caller ID Was Fitted On Cheetahs! Big Cats Died Due To Unfit Caller ID

Sheopur: Big negligence has come to the fore in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream project Cheetah Project in MP's Kuno National Park. It is said that the reason for the death of cheetahs is the caller ID fitted on them. The cheetahs got infected due to the caller ID. There was a wound in the neck, in which worms got infected and the cheetahs died.

Twenty cheetahs were brought to India from South Africa and Namibia. Of these cheetahs, three cubs and five adult cheetahs have died so far.

Caller ID is unfit for cheetahs

Collar IDs have been fitted on the neck of all Cheetahs to keep an eye on their movements and get information about their activities, but it was the collar ID used for the tiger, which was put on the cheetahs.

Experts say that these cheetahs got infected due to caller ID which ultimately led to their death. This caller ID was designed for Tiger, which is proving unfit for Cheetahs.

Deadly caller IDs will be removed from Cheetahs

According to experts, all the caller IDs fitted on the Cheetahs will be removed. This decision was taken in a meeting of the Cheetah Steering Committee held under the chairmanship of expert Dr. Rajesh Gopal.

Along with this, 10 cheetahs living in the open forest will be tranquilized and brought back to a safe enclosure where the process of removing their caller IDs will be completed. Experts say that Tiger's skin is tough. Whereas the skin of cheetahs is soft. Therefore the collar IDs injured the big cats and worms developed in the wounds.

A team of three members from Karnataka is probing in this direction. The team also includes NTCA Bengaluru IG NS Murali, AIG Venugopal Hirani.

Gaurav and Shaurya are healthy: PCCF

On the other hand, Aseem Srivastava, who was recently appointed Principal Chief Conservator of Forests of MP, said that both Gaurav and Shaurya, the cheetahs in Kuno, are healthy. On Wednesday, the health checkup of both the cheetahs was done by a team of wildlife veterinarians from Kuno in coordination with Namibian experts from South Africa.

Both the cheetahs will be kept in the Quarantine Boma till the completion of the health test. Earlier on July 14, Pawan male cheetah was also kept in Quarantine Boma, which is now completely healthy.
