Luna-25 vs. Chandrayaan-3: Who Will Win Moon's Race And Claim South Pole Position 1st

Chennai: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which is gearing up for Chandryaan-3 spacecraft's soft landing on the South Pole of the Moon on August 23, congratulated Russian Space Agency Roscosmos on the successful launch of Luna-25 on Friday and said it would be wonderful to have another meeting point in our space journeys.

ISRO tweeted: "Congratulations, Roscosmos on the successful launch of
Luna-25. Wonderful to have another meeting point in our space journeys."

"Wishes for Chandrayaan-3 & Luna-25 missions to achieve their goals", it said.

ISRO said it is expected that Luna-25 of Russia with a Lander and Rover will be in Lunar orbit of 100 km by August 16, 2023 and will be landing on South pole of the moon by August 21-23, 2023.

It remains to be seen who will win the Moon's race and claim the South Pole position 1st -- Chandrayaan-3 of Russia's Luna-25.

Roscosmos launched the Luna-25 mission from the Vosthochny cosmodrome on the country’s far east on Friday, atop a Soyuz rocket.

Russia’s first lunar landing mission since 1976 might land on the lunar south pole before Chandrayaan-3, despite launching nearly a month after the India's third Lunar Mission.

The Russian mission will travel to the Moon in about five and a half days, where it will spend three to seven days in a 100 km orbit before landing on the surface. This could mean that Luna-25 will land on August 23, the same day ISRO has planned soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 in the South Polar region of the moon.

Russia’s Luna-25 mission was launched on Friday, August 11 at 4 am. Earlier it was expected to touch the lunar surface on 23 August. But now it is expected to reach there on 21 August.

While Chandrayaan-3, which set out to touch the surface of the Moon, was launched by ISRO on July 14, 2023, last month. Chandrayaan can land on the surface of the moon on 23 August.

The question is, how will Luna-25 succeed in touching the surface of the moon before Chandrayaan-3 after being launched even after almost a month?

Chandrayaan-3 mission can reach the lunar surface after the landing of Russian Luna-25 mission. The reason for this is that Chandrayaan-3 is travelling through a longer route than Luna-25 mission.

Actually Chandrayaan-3 wants to take advantage of the gravity of Earth and Moon through its journey. In this way it will spend less fuel.

Scientists say it is because the Russian rocket is more powerful. The Russian rocket is much bigger. Our rocket is small. Therefore, our rocket cannot give enough velocity to Chandrayaan-3 so that it can go towards the moon at a high speed.

Remarkable achievement of Indian scientists

According to experts, powerful and big rockets are more expensive. India made a plan to achieve its objective through small rockets. But the great thing is that India did not miss the opportunity. Despite its limited resources, it launched its mission and showed its capability. This is the remarkable achievement of Indian scientists. While compared to Russia, it is a small player in terms of space missions.
