PM Welcomed By Indian Community At ASEAN-India Summit; 21st Century Is Century Of Asia, Says Modi

Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia this morning. During this, the PM said – 21st century is the century of Asia; One Earth, One Family, One Future is our mantra.

Earlier, PM Modi was accodred warm welcome by the Indian cxommunity in Jakarta. 

ASEAN Central Pillar of India's Act East Policy

PM further said - ASEAN has a prominent place in India's Indo Pacific Initiative. ASEAN is the central pillar of India's Act East Policy. Today, in an environment of global uncertainties, our mutual cooperation is on the rise. Our partnership is entering its fourth decade.

I congratulate President Joko Widodo for the wonderful organization of this summit. Many congratulations to him for chairing the ASEAN Summit, Modi said.

Two joint statements were issued between India and ASEAN. These relate to maritime cooperation and food security, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Saurabh Kumar said. In maritime cooperation, areas such as safety and security of maritime areas, maritime domain awareness, disaster management etc. have been covered.

ASEAN-India fund for the digital future

In the food security minute, millets find a prominent place. It provides food security as well as protects the environment, he said. The prime minister announced the formation of an ASEAN-India fund for the digital future. This will provide financial connectivity between ASEAN and India.

India to establish  Embassy in Timor Leste

At the ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta , Prime Minister announced a decision to establish an Indian Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste. The decision is a reflection of the importance India attaches to ASEAN, and its relations with Timor Leste.

This decision was warmly welcomed by Timor Leste and ASEAN Members.

Timor Leste joined ASEAN in 2022 as an Observor, before becoming its full Member.
