Rajasthan: 12 Die As Trailer Rams Into Bus In Bharatpur



Bharatpur: 12 people died in a when a trailer truck hit a parked bus from behind and crushed bus passengers who were standing on the roadside in Bharatpur, Rajasthan on Wednesday morning. Besides, over a dozen people are injured. According to police and administration, the death toll may rise. There were more than 57 people in the bus.


The accident occurred at 5:30 am near Hantara on Agra-Jaipur National Highway-21 in Lakhanpur police station area. Among those who died, 7 were women. All the deceased were residents of Bhav Nagar, Gujarat.


According to the police, the bus was going from Bhavnagar to Haridwar via Mathura. In the morning the diesel pipe of the bus suddenly burst on the Bharatpur-Agra highway. About 10-12 passengers got off the bus along with the driver.


The driver and others went to get diesel after repairing the pipe. Just then a speeding truck hit the bus and went on, crushing the people standing nearby.


The drivers of other vehicles passing by saw injured people lying on the road. They called the police and an ambulance. The bodies of all have been kept in the mortuary of Bharatpur District Hospital.


According to the police, the families of the dead and injured have been informed. Post mortem of the dead bodies will be conducted once their kin reach Bharatpur.


After the accident, the bodies scattered on the highway. The people present there removed each dead body from the middle of the road and kept them on roadside. At the same time, there was a jam on the highway. Police said that it is not yet known which vehicle caused the collision. The condition of the injured remains critical. They will be able in a position to tell once they regain consciousness. Local people said that there was a jam on the highway after the accident.


According to the police control room, Antu, Nandram, Lallu, Bharat, Lalji, his wife Madhuben, Ambaben, Kambuben, Ramuben, Anjuben and Madhuben -- the wife of one Arvind -- died in the accident. They were from Dihor in Gujarat's Bhav Nagar.
