New Delhi: The old Parliament is now going to become history. The five-day special session of Parliament started from Monday. Now from Tuesday 19th September, the proceedings of the House will be held in the new building of the Parliament. Parliament proceedings began on Monday. PM Narendra Modi gave an emotional speech on the first day.
Modi said it is also an occasion to hail everyone who have led this House and shared their vision for India, ranging from Pandit Nehru to Vajpayee.
He also remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Chandrashekhar and Lal Krishna Advani for enriching the House.
I never imagined that the country would give me so much respect
During his last speech in the old Parliament House, PM Modi said that this is the day for the country to once again remember the 75 years of parliamentary journey. This is an opportunity to move forward while remembering those inspiring and important moments in history while moving into the new House building.
PM said that we all are bidding farewell to this historical building. PM Modi mentioned the history of the old Parliament House and said that after independence, this building got recognized as the Parliament House.
‘I instinctively bowed my head at the threshold of the House’
The PM said that when he came to Parliament for the first time, he instinctively bowed his head at the threshold of the House. Paying homage to this temple of democracy, he set foot in the Parliament House. That moment was full of emotions for him. He could not have imagined, but this is the strength of India's democracy, that a child living on the railway platform reaches Parliament. The PM said that he had never imagined that the country would give him so much respect.
PM also mentioned Nehru-Shastri
PM Narendra Modi mentioned the old governments in his speech on the first day of the session. He even mentioned the country's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri and said that this is the house where Bhagat Singh, Batukeshwar Dutt used their bravery and strength to detonate bombs. The British government was awakened.
He said that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to say…governments will come and go but this country should remain. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar used to contribute a lot in the initial cabinet of Pandit Nehru. Baba Saheb Amdekar used to say that the country should be industrialized. Because it will benefit the Dalits of the country. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee gave the first industrial policy in this country.
Shastri ji had boosted the morale of the soldiers
Shastri ji had boosted the morale of the country's soldiers during the 1965 war from this House of Parliament. While remembering late Indira Gandhi, PM Modi said that this House had witnessed the liberation war movement of Bangladesh under the leadership of Indira Gandhi.
'This House also witnessed an attack on democracy'
At the same time, this House also witnessed an attack on democracy during the Emergency and through this House, the people also asserted their power as we saw the return of democracy, Modi added.
Modi also credited 140 crore Indians for the success of the G20 Summit held in New Delhi saying it does not belong to any individual or a party.
The PM said the federal structure, diversity, and different governments of the country welcomed the guests. It is something for everyone to celebrate, Modi noted.
