Kerala Blast: Bomb explosions in Christian Convention Centre in Kochi, NIA-NSG team sent


Kochi: There is news of at least two bomb blasts in a convention center in Kochi, Kerala on Sunday morning.


So far one person has died in the two blasts in Kalamassery, Kochi. 36 people have been injured in the blasts, out of which five are seriously injured. The explosion is reported to have occurred at the convention center affiliated with a Christian group, with a call for police assistance coming in around 9 am.


State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed grief over the blast and termed it 'unfortunate'. He said that the government is taking it seriously.


Shah speaks to Kerala CM


Union Home Minister Amit Shah conversed with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to assess the situation subsequent to the explosion.


In response to the home minister's directive to support the state government, teams from the National Security Guard and the National Investigation Agency, both specialized in anti-terror operations, are being dispatched to Kerala.


A source revealed that the Union home minister and the Kerala chief minister discussed the incident, with the latter providing details about the situation.


An officer from the Kalamassery police department clarified that the cause of the blast remained unconfirmed. 


Television broadcasts displayed visuals of the incident, showing a substantial presence of fire rescue and law enforcement personnel involved in evacuating individuals from the site. Inside the convention center, distressing footage revealed multiple fires and terrified people.


Following the explosion, hundreds of individuals could be seen outside the convention center, responding to the unfortunate event.
