Nipah virus: One more person infected in Kerala's Kozhikode dist, instructions to remain alert


Kozhikode (Kerala): Another case of infection with Nipah virus has been confirmed in Kozhikode district of Kerala. State Health Minister Veena George's office said on Friday that Nipah virus infection was confirmed in the 39-year-old man's sample. He is under observation in a hospital. With the new case, the total number of Nipah infection cases in Kozhikode has increased to six. Those infected with the virus are undergoing treatment in five other hospitals. 

 

A five kilometer radius of the houses of the two people who died due to Nipah virus infection has been made an isolated area.


The state had sent 11 more samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing/ Much to the government's relief the results of all other samples were negative. Samples of another 15 people included in the high-risk contact list have also been sent for testing.


A five-member team of experts from the National Center for Disease Control, RML Hospital and NIMHANS has been deployed to Kerala to take stock of the situation and assist the state government in managing the Nipah infection.
