New Delhi: In a shocking allegation, the Enforcement Directorate has claimed that a courier agency caught with over Rs 5 crore in cash has revealed that promoters of Mahadev betting app paid Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
He also told the agency that the money he had was to be given to a politician for election expenses in Chhattisgarh.
The agency had received an intelligence input that a large amount of cash was being transported to Chhattisgarh by the promoters of Mahadev App ahead of the elections in the state.
The Enforcement Directorate said, "On Thursday, the agency conducted searches at Hotel Triton and another location in Bhilai and successfully intercepted a cash courier. Asim Das was specifically sent from the United Arab Emirates for distributing large amounts of cash for the election expenses of the ruling Congress party."
The ED said Rs 5.39 crore was recovered from Das's car and residence and he admitted that the money for the upcoming election expenses in Chhattisgarh was arranged by the promoters of Mahadev App, who are based in the UAE. This was to be delivered to a politician 'Baghel'.
Benami bank accounts linked to betting app detected
Some benami bank accounts linked to the betting app were also detected and the amount of Rs 15.59 crore available in them has been seized. These allegations have been leveled against CM Bhupesh Baghel four days before the first phase of elections in the state.
In this case, ED has also arrested a constable of Chhattisgarh Police, Bhim Yadav. Bhim Yadav has visited Dubai several times in the last three years. Through him, bribe money used to reach politicians and police officers.
Both accused on 7 days ED remand
The court has sent both the accused on ED remand for 7 days. Asim Das was in touch with the most wanted Shubham Soni (close to the promoter) in the Mahadev App case. This has been revealed from Asim Das's phone.
Evidence of conversation between the two through voice notes has been found from Asim Das's phone. In which there is talk of giving money to Bhupesh Baghel.
Rapid Travels, which handles the hawala business of Mahadev App, had borne the expenses of constable Bhim going to Dubai.
ED has claimed that the promoters of Mahadev betting app have so far given Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, its investigation is underway.
