Widespread seismic activity shook the Earth, affecting various regions, including Delhi-NCR, UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located in Nepal. Its tremors reverberated through Haryana, Bihar, and the North-Eastern states. The initial shock occurred at 11:32 pm, lasting for several seconds.
The strong tremors were also experienced in the capitals of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, namely Lucknow and Patna. In response to the tremors, people quickly exited their homes for safety.
Powerful earthquakes have rocked Nepal third time in a month
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), a 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Nepal's Birendranagar. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers. Remarkably, this marks the third time in a month that powerful earthquakes have rocked Nepal. In 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal claimed the lives of around 9,000 people.
'I felt the ground shaking'
In Delhi, residents of high-rise building poured onto the streets when the tremors persisted for more than a minute. Social media was inundated with videos depicting swaying chandeliers and fans, highlighting the earthquake's severity. People were fearful about returning to their homes and spent several hours in the open.
A resident of Patna reported that while lying in bed, he felt the ground shaking, even noticing the ceiling fan in motion, prompting them to exit their home.
Similarly, a Noida resident shared their experience, stating, "I was watching TV when I suddenly felt a bit dizzy. Upon checking the TV, I learned about the earthquake, and I quickly left my house."
