The Justin Trudeau government has dealt a major blow to international students who want to study in Canada. Actually, now students coming here to study will have to spend more money. According to the new decision of the government, international students will have to show their strong financial background. After Britain, this decision of Canada is a big blow especially for Indians. A few days ago, Britain had banned Indian workers from taking their spouses to Britain by adding the condition of strong economic condition.
Applicant will have to show he/she has USD 20,635
decision of Canadian government will come into effect from January 1, 2024. According to the new decision, for new study permit applications received on or after January 1 next year, the applicant will have to show that he/she has USD 20,635 as against USD 10,000 earlier. The cost of living for an applicant has remained stable at US$10,000 since the early 2000s but now is the time for a change.
Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Mark Miller, announced significant reforms to the country's study permit requirements. Miller said international students face many challenges in making a living in Canada, so there is a need to revise the cost of living limit.
403 Indian students lost their lives abroad since 2018
An Indian government report mentions the death of 403 Indian students due to various reasons in other countries since 2018. According to the report, Canada has the highest number of 91 deaths among 34 countries.
Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan informed in the Rajya Sabha that since 2018, 403 incidents of death of Indian students living abroad have been reported. 91 Indian students died in Canada since 2018. After this comes the United Kingdom (48), Russia (40), America (36), Australia (35), Ukraine (21), Germany and Cyprus (14 each), Italy and Philippines (10 each) .
