Madhya Pradesh: Mohan Yadav, a highly-educated yet low-profile leader

Bhopal: Dr Mohan Yadav – who was unanimously chosen as the Madhya Pradesh BJP Legislature Party leader here on Monday – is to assume the mantle of Chief Minister and is believed to be the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s choice as well.

Born on March 25, 1965 in Poonamchand Yadav’s family at the ancient temple town Ujjain – abode of the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar shrine – Yadav, was hitherto serving as Higher Education Minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan Council of Ministers. He specialises in accomplishing missions while maintaining a low profile.

Yadav is an alumnus of the Vikram University, Ujjain and possesses BSc, LLB, MA (Political Science) and MBA degrees in addition to a doctorate. His spouse is Seema and the couple has two sons and a daughter. His interests include tourism, culture, history, science and sports.

Shouldered several key responsibilities after associating with ABVP

The Chief Minister designate entered the political sphere when he was elected Secretary during the student union election at Ujjian’s Madhav Science College in 1982. A couple of years later, Yadav became associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and shouldered several key responsibilities.

Was made Chairman of State Tourism Development Corporation in 2013

From 2000-03, he was Ujjain District General Secretary of the BJP.
He has been the Chairman of Ujjain Development Authority from 2004 to 2010 while he has held the responsibility of Chairman of MP State Tourism Development Authority from 2011 to 2013 and elevated to Cabinet rank. That very year he became MLA from Ujjain South, which he has been representing ever since. The Higher Education portfolio was bestowed on July 2, 2020.

Yadav is a big OBC face of BJP in MP

When the name of Dr. Mohan Yadav was announced in the legislature party meeting, he was seen touching the feet of Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the stage and Shivraj Singh blessed him with affection by placing his hand on his head. Mohan Yadav is a big OBC face of BJP in Madhya Pradesh. His name has probably been announced keeping in view the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

58-year-old Mohan Yadav is also a member of RSS. He had contested elections from Ujjain South in 2013 and has been elected MLA from here for the third consecutive term. This time he defeated Congress candidate Chetan Premnarayan Yadav by 12941 votes. Mohan Yadav got 95699 votes.

A surprise for the people of Ujjain

The announcement of Mohan Yadav's name is no less than a surprise for the people of Ujjain because his name was nowhere in the race for the post of CM.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gives shocking decisions to everyone, has shocked the entire Madhya Pradesh with his decision this time.

Modi's choice Mohan Yadav has been MLA since 2013 and is busy in preparations for the next Simhastha (2028) in Ujjain. Everyone was taken aback when his name suddenly appeared for the post of Chief Minister, because till now the name of Yadav was not among contenders for post of CM. There were other leaders who were being considered favourite to hold the CM post but no one knew about Yadav.
