Rajasthan: Uproar over BJP MLA's statement on hijab, Muslim girl students protest

In a recent school event, Balmukund Acharya, the BJP MLA representing the Hawamahal assembly constituency in Jaipur, Rajasthan, voiced his objection to the wearing of hijab in schools, advocating for its prohibition.

Following his remarks, a significant number of Muslim female students staged a protest at the local police station, urging authorities to take action against the MLA. The demonstration included the presence of the protesting girls and their family members.

One protesting girl remarked, "He wears saffron to the assembly and instructs us not to wear hijab."

MLA Balmukund Acharya has previously been embroiled in controversies related to the closure of meat shops in Jaipur and his contentious statements.

Issue raised in Assembly

Meanwhile, MLA Rafiq Khan raised the hijab issue in the assembly. State Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena defended MLA Balmukund Acharya, stating that hijab and burqa are banned in numerous Muslim countries.

Dr. Meena attributed these garments to the influence of historical invaders, such as the Mughals, and expressed the view that children should abstain from such practices. He further mentioned his intention to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister.
