Madhya Pradesh: Cockroach found in Bhopal-Jabalpur Vande Bharat passenger's meal; catering company fined Rs 45,000

Jabalpur: In response to a passenger's unsettling discovery of a cockroach in his meal aboard the Bhopal-Jabalpur Vande Bharat Express recently, the Indian Railways has imposed a substantial fine of Rs 45,000 on the catering company responsible. Express Food Company, located in Itarsi, faced penalties of Rs 25,000 from the Jabalpur Rail Division and Rs 20,000 from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

The incident came to light when passenger Shubhendu Keshari shared his experience on social media, prompting swift action from the Railway Board. The fines, totaling Rs 45,000, are intended to hold the catering company accountable for hygiene lapses and serve as a stern warning to ensure strict adherence to quality control measures in the future.

This incident follows a similar complaint on February 1, where another passenger on the Vande Bharat Express reported finding a dead cockroach in his meal from Rani Kamlapati to Jabalpur. The individual lodged an official complaint with the West Central Railway upon reaching Jabalpur station. Two days later, the passenger took to social media, and IRCTC responded with an apology for the inconvenience caused.
