UP Police Paper Leak: What Candidates and Opposition Parties Are Saying Amidst Escalating Controversy?

The uproar over the Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment examination, alleged to have been leaked last week, continues to intensify, leading to protests in Lucknow and Prayagraj.

On Friday, youth took to the streets in protest in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow and Prayagraj. The protesting youth allege that this paper was leaked ahead of time.

The board conducting the examination has asked the youth to share the evidence with the board to prove their allegations .

Despite the board's call for proof, the discontent among the youth has spilled onto the streets, prompting reactions from political parties.

The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Board administered the exam across 75 districts on February 17th and 18th, attracting over 48 lakh participants vying for 60244 positions, with approximately 16 lakh being women.

Social media buzzed with news of the leaked paper once the exam commenced. UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, in an interview, refuted the claims, stating, "According to my information, no paper has been leaked. The police have kept a close watch on those who have made such attempts. They will all be caught."

Police Recruitment Board of Uttar Pradesh Government has conducted the examination in two shifts in 75 districts of UP last week on 17th and 18th February.

What are the candidates saying now?

One of the students, who is preparing for competitive examinations while living in Lucknow, says, “Our only demand is that the government should cancel this examination and conduct it again. Because the paper has been leaked, I have proof of it.”

He said further, “We work so hard. But when you go to take the exam, you come to know that the paper has been leaked. This is very disappointing and frustrating."

Rajesh Ahirwar, who came to Lucknow from Mau district of Uttar Pradesh to prepare for the exam, highlights the sacrifices made by aspirants, including separation from family, financial investments, and health challenges. He questions the government's refusal to acknowledge the alleged leak. He emphasized the dedication of students who have invested time and resources in their preparation.

He said, "Why is the government not accepting that the paper has been leaked? Are all these children mad who have come this far? Everyone has reached here by investing their money.”

I am with the students: Rahul

There have been reactions from Congress and Samajwadi Party on this protest by students in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi met with students demanding a re-conduct of the exam. Rahul said, "Today some students came to meet me with the complaint of leaking of UP Police exam paper. The leaked paper spoiled the years of hard work of more than 50 lakh hardworking candidates. The future of countless youth in UP is being ruined due to the collusion of the government machinery and the copying mafia."

Rahul said further, "The double engine government is so insensitive that it is not even ready to listen to the stories of broken dreams. I am with the students in this fight for justice against this injustice done to them."

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi expressed concern over the impact on students and their families due to the alleged paper leak.

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav questioned the government's role in the purported leak.
