Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi have targeted BJP and the central government over the demolition of rat miner Vakil Hasan's house.
While sharing a video of Vakil Hasan's wife on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi wrote, “Vakil Hasan had saved the lives of the laborers trapped in the Uttarkashi tunnel by risking his life. Then, for the sake of publicity, big leaders of BJP had got themselves photographed with Vakil.”
Priyanka has written, “When the euphoria was over, today the same Vakil Hasan was locked in the police station and his house was demolished and the roof was taken away from the heads of his children. Demolishing the houses of the poor, crushing them, torturing and humiliating them is injustice. This is the truth of BJP. The public will definitely respond to this injustice.”
Questioning the action of DDA, Asaduddin Owaisi has written on Twitter, “DDA did not even give notice, the bulldozer was run when the Vakil's children were alone at his house. Vakil Hasan and his colleagues had saved 41 people by risking their lives.”
He wrote, “In any civilized society he would have been given the status of a national hero, but perhaps his name is Vakil Hasan, hence only bulldozers, encounters etc. are possible for him in Modi rule.”

Vakil Hasan said, “DDA officials and police suddenly reached my house with bulldozers on Wednesday and started demolishing the house. I even asked them if they had any notice, but they did not show any notice.”
According to Vakil Hasan, the police took him to the police station and made him sit for hours, accusing him of obstructing government work.
Hasan said his entire family spent the night sitting on the footpath and neighbors gave them food.
He says, “My wife was not at home when the house was being demolished. My children were present. They also told the officials that our father has saved the laborers in Uttarkashi, you should not demolish our house.”
According to Hasan, when we rescued the workers from the tunnel a few months ago, the entire country made us heroes and today this is what happened to me.
BJP responds
Facing flak, BJP has announced a house would be given to Vakil Hasan. Delhi LG VK Saxena said that I have been informed about it and we will definitely give compensation. They will also be provided a house.
After the incident, DDA offered temporary accommodation to Hasan but he rejected the offer. The authorities have also offered him a house in Govindpuri area but he refused the deal.
Hasan said that DDA officials had told him that a house would also be provided soon in Govindpuri area but I refused to accept their proposal as the assurance was verbal.
DDA's statement on encroachment
On the other hand, DDA said in a statement that the land on which the bulldozer was operated was a part of the planned development land. Now many illegally constructed constructions have been demolished. In Khajuri village also, encroachment was removed from the same land which was development land.
