I will definitely meet Poonam Mahajan, said Ujjwal Nikam; what more he said?

 

After securing the BJP ticket for Mumbai North Central, advocate Ujjwal Nikam expressed gratitude, stating, "For years, you've witnessed me battling in court against criminals. Today, I embrace this responsibility with gratitude to PM Modi and BJP President Nadda. While politics may not be my natural terrain, I assure you that upholding our country's Constitution, law, and security will be my foremost concern. 

Nikam said, "In Parliament, I will raise pertinent questions regarding these priorities. My tenure fighting high-profile cases in Mumbai, with national implications, reinforced my belief in a robust and just legal system, one that shields the common citizen from undue blame."

PM Modi has bolstered the nation's reputation

Nikam stated that Prime Minister Modi has bolstered the nation's reputation, leading to India being held in high regard globally. He credited Modi and his administration entirely for this achievement. Mumbai North Central is an important constituency from where I have been asked to contest elections.

I will definitely take Poonam ji's opinion

Nikam said- 'Poonam Mahajan and our relations are very traditional. Poonam ji, Pankaja Munde used to meet me. Spent time giving statement in court. I will definitely meet Poonam ji. She has represented this area for 10 years. She has complete information about this place, I will definitely take her opinion also.'

Ujjwal Nikam further said, 'I consider myself lucky to have got the opportunity to serve the country through politics. Varsha Tai (Congress candidate Varsha Eknath Gaikwad) is a senior member, I have no ill will against anyone. Thanks to all the BJP leaders.'

Priya Dutt won once and lost twice

Talking about Mumbai Central North Lok Sabha seat, this high profile seat was with Congress in 2004. At that time, in 2004, Eknath Gaikwad of Congress had reached the Lok Sabha after winning the elections. Five years later, in 2009, Congress gave ticket to Priya Dutt, daughter of famous actor Sunil Dutt, from Mumbai North Central seat. Priya Dutt had also won this seat with a big margin.

In the 2014 elections, BJP changed its strategy and fielded Pramod Mahajan's daughter Poonam Mahajan against Priya Dutt. At that time, there was a war between the daughters of two stalwarts i.e. actor Sunil Dutt and the daughters of popular political leader Pramod Bhajan. In that battle, Poonam Mahajan had won the Mumbai North Central seat for BJP by a huge margin.

In the 2019 elections, once again there was a face-to-face contest between Priya Dutt and Poonam Mahajan. In which Poonam Mahajan again won. But this time in the 2024 elections, both the parties Congress and BJP have changed their candidates. While BJP has expressed confidence in government lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, who got the death sentence for terrorist Ajmal Kasab, Congress has given ticket to Varsha Eknath Gaikwad on this seat.
