Indore Lok Sabha Seat: Was Section 307 invoked in an old case against Akshay Kanti Bam? What Jitu Patwari said?

Bhopal: The withdrawal of nomination by Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bam in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, just two weeks before elections, has sparked tensions between BJP and Congress workers. Concerns have been raised by Congress members, alleging that BJP has planned an uncontested election.

Addressing the issue, Congress state president Jitu Patwari asserted, "Three days ago, section 307 was invoked in an old case against Akshay Kanti Bam. He was intimidated, threatened, and subjected to torment throughout the night. After this, today, he was escorted by the BJP and his nomination was withdrawn."

Patwari stated in Gwalior on Sunday, "Citizens of Indore, this is a signal discouraging exercise of your voting rights. I implore you, if you cherish democracy, to resist this autocratic behavior."

A significant number of Congress leaders gathered at the office District Election Office in the Indore Collectorate on Monday, expressing fears that officials are being influenced by BJP pressures.

Earlier that same Monday morning, Akshay Kanti Bam, the Congress candidate for the Indore Lok Sabha seat, withdrew his nomination. Accompanied by Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola, he visited the Collector's office to retract his candidacy and subsequently joined the BJP.

‘Vijayvargiya's Orchestrated Plan’

It's been claimed that Minister Vijayvargiya coordinated the entire operation with the party leadership, strategizing at a hotel. Anticipating a possible ruckus from Congress party, Ramesh Mendola was included in the plan and the two leaders escorted Akshay Bam to the collectorate for withdrawal of nomination.
