Lok Sabha elections-2024: What Did Robert Vadra Say About Contesting From Amethi

As the Lok Sabha elections-2024 approach, the spotlight is on key constituencies like Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lost to BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi.

This time, Smriti Irani has been fielded again by the BJP, but the Congress is yet to announce its candidate.

Sonia Gandhi has opted not to contest from Rae Bareli this time and is focusing on Rajya Sabha.

People of Amethi feel they made a mistake: Vadra

Addressing the media on this matter, Robert Vadra, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, shared his perspective.

Vadra expressed, "The people of Amethi are deeply dissatisfied with the current Member of Parliament. They feel they made a mistake in electing her. She is not thinking about the progress or development of Amethi. She is just busy blaming the Gandhi family."

Vadra added, "The people of Amethi feel that they have made a mistake by electing Smriti  and Rahul had to find another seat.  If they desire a Gandhi family member to represent them and secure a resounding victory, it's encouraging. It even motivates me."

Vadra continued, "I hope that if I decide to enter politics and contemplate becoming an MP, I would choose to represent Amethi. My journey alongside Priyanka began in 1999, campaigning in Amethi. The people I collaborated with there remain committed and are in contact with me."

Cong yet to announce candidates for Amethi and Raebareli

The Congress intends to contest 17 out of Uttar Pradesh's 80 Lok Sabha seats, while the remaining 63 seats will be contested by the India bloc ally Samajwadi Party and regional outfits. Currently, the party has announced candidates for 14 seats, but remains silent on its choices for Amethi and Raebareli.

Speculation has been rife about a potential high-profile challenge from Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi against the BJP. Rahul Gandhi, who previously held the Amethi seat from 2004 to 2014 before losing to Smriti Irani in the 2019 election, was expected to contest from there again. However, his opponent from the BJP, Smriti Irani, is geared up to defend her seat.

As for Raebareli, currently represented by former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi since 2004, the BJP's plans remain uncertain since Sonia Gandhi has opted out of contesting this time and has moved to the Rajya Sabha.

There have been discussions about the Congress possibly nominating Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, creating an intriguing dynamic for voters in Amethi and Raebareli, with the potential for a husband-wife combination to contest from these constituencies.
