Amethi Lok Sabha elections-2024: Congress candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha seat, Kishori Lal Sharma (KL Sharma) has said that he is a politician and has been active in politics since 1983.
KL Sharma said, "This decision was taken by the top leadership. Earlier it was not decided who would contest from here. Now I am saying that I will defeat Smriti Irani, I am saying this big thing."
He said further, “I am not working for the Gandhi family here, I am a leader. I came here in 1983 as the Youth Congress member. I do not take any salary from Congress. I am a politician."
On being questioned by BJP leaders about his capacity to take on Irani, KL Sharma said, "When I came here, I had a much higher status than them. Whatever they are showing shows their culture."
The Congress party has nominated KL Sharma, close to the Gandhi family, as its candidate from Amethi in place of Rahul Gandhi for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Rahul Gandhi is contesting elections from Rae Bareli instead of Amethi.
BJP leaders have alleged that Rahul Gandhi was afraid of defeat in Amethi, hence KL Sharma was made the candidate.
Kishori Lal Sharma, a dedicated supporter of the Congress party, originates from Ludhiana, Punjab. His affiliation with the Congress dates back to 1983 when he commenced his work with Rajiv Gandhi. Following Rajiv Gandhi's tragic assassination, Kishori Lal Sharma collaborated with Captain Satish Sharma in Amethi and has been linked with Sonia Gandhi in Amethi since 1999. Subsequently, Sharma undertook the responsibility of overseeing both the Raebareli and Amethi constituencies.
