Poonch Terror Attack: Air Force Trooper Martyred, 5 Wounded in J&K Convoy Ambush

One Indian Air Force soldier lost his life, while five others sustained injuries during a terrorist attack in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, J&K. Among the injured, one airman is said to be in critical condition. The wounded were promptly airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for advanced medical care, as per officials.

Additional forces were swiftly deployed to the region, and counter-terrorism measures are currently in progress. According to sources within the security forces, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit initiated cordon and search operations in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force confirmed via Twitter that its convoy, which came under attack near Shahsitar in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, has been secured. The tweet stated, "An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was targeted by militants in Poonch district, J&K, near Shahsitar. Local military units are conducting ongoing cordon and search operations in the area. The convoy has been safeguarded, and investigations are ongoing."

According to reports, the personnel were en route to the IAF facility when they fell into an ambush.

This marks the first major assault on the armed forces in the region this year, following a string of terror attacks on the army last year. Footage following the attack displayed at least twelve bullet holes riddling the vehicle's windscreen that was targeted.

Poonch falls within the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, slated for elections in the sixth phase on May 25th.
