MP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Former Lok Sabha Speaker and ex-Indore MP, Sumitra Mahajan, expressed her deep dismay over Akshay Kanti Bam incident in Indore. Familiarly addressed as "Tai" within the BJP, Mahajan criticized her party leaders for their involvement in the incident, stating that such actions should have been avoided.

Akshay Kanti Bam lacked support

Sumitra Mahajan questioned whether the Congress contender, Akshay Kanti Bam, was stronger compared to the BJP's candidate, Shankar Lalwani. It was widely acknowledged that Akshay Kanti Bam lacked substantial support. Moreover, Shankar Lalwani, the incumbent MP, enjoyed a favorable public perception and solid ground support. Given these circumstances, it seemed unnecessary for the BJP to retract its opposition candidate's nomination and absorb him into their own party.

BJP wins in elections through the dedication of their workers

Sumitra Mahajan argued that even if the opposition presents a powerful candidate, such actions should not have been taken. Throughout history, BJP leaders have triumphed over formidable opponents in elections through the dedication of their workers. In this instance, where there was no prominent opposition candidate, BJP leaders should have refrained from actions that cast a shadow on their positive accomplishments.

Sumitra has to convince party supporters

Sumitra Mahajan conveyed that following this incident, numerous staunch BJP supporters have reached out to her, expressing their inclination towards voting for NOTA instead of BJP. They have voiced dissatisfaction with the actions of BJP leaders. 

Mahajan said she has to tell them to consider the leadership of Modi ji, the symbolism of the lotus flower, and the candidacy of BJP representative still in fray. She has urged supporters not to penalize BJP for this error and to cast their votes in favor of the party and candidate.

Mahajan praises Modi's leadership

Sumitra Mahajan praised Modi's leadership, highlighting his remarkable achievements. She said that in such circumstances, particularly in Indore, the BJP should have emphasized Modi's accomplishments in their election campaign, rather than creating discomfort by making Akshay Kanti Bam withdraw his nomination. Mahajan said that she is deeply saddened by this incident.
