UP Lok Sabha Election-2024: Kannauj has been a focal point in political discussions especially on account of candidacy of former Chief Minister and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. In 2019, Subrata Pathak of the BJP emerged victorious in a closely contested battle against Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh Yadav.
Previously, Akhilesh Yadav represented Kannauj as a Member of Parliament.
Voting for three phases of Lok Sabha elections has been completed and now voting for 4th phase is to be held on 13 May. Voting in 4th phase will be held in Kannauj.
SP supporters enthusiastic
Akhilesh Yadav's candidacy has reignited the spirits of Samajwadi Party supporters in the region. His presence is not only resonating among party members but also among the general populace of Kannauj.
When discussing the upcoming elections, many people express admiration for Akhilesh Yadav, referring to him as a national-level leader whose return to Kannauj is welcomed.
Interestingly, even supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi do not exhibit opposition towards Akhilesh Yadav. In a local eatery, a young person mentions, "While Prime Minister Modi's government is competent, Akhilesh bhaiya is seen as a better choice for Kannauj."
Subrata Pathak, the BJP candidate, acknowledges the heightened challenge he faces this time around.
Akhilesh tried to connect emotionally
On the last day of campaigning in Kannauj in the joint public meeting of India Alliance, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav fiercely targeted BJP's Modi government. Akhilesh Yadav tried to connect emotionally with Kannauj voters in the beginning of his speech. Referring to his father, Akhilesh Yadav said that Netaji had said from the same platform that he is handing over Akhilesh to the people of Kannauj. All of you together make Akhilesh the leader.
Akhilesh Yadav did not stop here, he said that Netaji had said that you people should make Akhilesh the leader, he will always serve here and will never leave you people. But the people of Kannauj loved him so much that they made him a Sultan.
Akhilesh Yadav said that whether we contested elections or not, we never left Kannauj. He attacked the Center on the issue of vaccine and said that it has been administered and nothing can be done. India alliance and all of us are going to expose them. If love and fragrance meet, there will be a huge change.
