UP Lok Sabha Election 2024: What Priyanka Gandhi said in Raebareli about putting a 'Babri lock' on Ram Temple

UP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Accusations of putting a 'Babri lock' on the Ram temple are "completely false," said Congress party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Raebareli on Thursday. She said Congress respects the Supreme Court's decision.

Campaigning in support of her brother and Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi in Raebareli, Priyanka, when asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's accusation of putting a 'Babri lock' on the Ram temple upon coming to power, stated, "This is completely false. The Congress party has reiterated many times that it will respect the court's decision (regarding the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue). We have done so in the past and will continue to do so in the future."

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated on Tuesday in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh that he wishes for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to win 400 seats in the current Lok Sabha elections so that it can ensure that the Congress does not revoke Article 370 in Kashmir and does not put a 'Babri lock' on the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Home Minister Amit Shah also mentioned the 'Babri lock' in his rallies in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Accusing AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi of working directly with the BJP, Priyanka said, "Asaduddin Owaisi is working directly with the BJP... This was very clear in the Telangana elections."

'Women wrestlers were ignored when they sat on dharna'

She referred to the women wrestlers who accused former President of the Wrestling Federation of India and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of harassment. Priyanka said, "BJP leaders cannot stand with women... When a female wrestler won an Olympic medal, Modi had tea with her and took photos, but when she sat down for a protest and said she was harassed, no one talked to her. The BJP gave Lok Sabha election tickets to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's son."

'I am proud of my family'

Responding to the BJP's accusation that Priyanka is seeking votes in the name of her family's sacrifices, the Congress General Secretary said, "The BJP wants me to remain silent about my family or feel ashamed? Why should I be ashamed of my family? I am proud of my family. I am proud of Indira ji, who did so much for the country, who split Pakistan and created Bangladesh, I am proud of Indira ji for her sacrifice for the country... I am proud of Rajiv ji... Why shouldn't I speak about their sacrifice? Should I remain silent and let them be insulted?"

Regarding Prime Minister Modi's comments on the Congress manifesto, Priyanka said, "My advice to him is that he should read the Congress manifesto first. Although he is the Prime Minister and older than me... But my advice is that he should read the manifesto first and then comment on it. He hasn't read it. Whatever comes to his mind, he says that it is written in it. The things he is talking about, are not written in the manifesto."
