Bhopal News: Residents of Tulsi Nagar, Shivaji Nagar sit on dharna, oppose plan to cut 29000 trees for bungalows of ministers, MLAs, see details

Bhopal: Residents sat on a dharna in Ravishankar Market on Wednesday under the leadership of former Congress minister-MLA PC Sharma and councilor Yogendra Singh Guddu Chauhan in protest against the cutting of 29 thousand trees in Shivaji Nagar and Tulsi Nagar area.

Thousands of people will be rendered homeless: Sharma

Former minister Sharma said that trees were first cut in the name of smart city. People were rendered homeless from there. The trees that were shifted are not alive today. The people who were rendered homeless from there are wandering till date, they have not got housing. Now the government is hell bent on cutting the trees of Shivaji Nagar and Tulsi Nagar in the name of re-development. Thousands of people will be rendered homeless from here too.

‘There are enough bungalows for ministers and MLAs’

Sharma said that there are enough bungalows for ministers and MLAs in the city. They should be redeveloped. Thousands of people are being rendered homeless in Shivaji Nagar. This will not be allowed to happen even if we have to go to jail for this. This issue will be raised in the Vidhan Sabha. We will take this issue to Delhi, but will neither let the people here become homeless nor will we let the 29 thousand 40-year-old trees of Shivaji Nagar be cut. A large number of local residents including former ministers, councilors, Congress workers participated in the protest.

Sloganeering against the government

During the protest, Congress workers raised slogans against the state government. Congress workers and local residents demanded the cancellation of this proposal. Former minister Sharma says that the public remembers the deception that has been done with the people in the name of Smart City. It will not be allowed to happen again. Here the government has planned to demolish 2267 government bungalows and houses. There is a plan to build 30 bungalows, 16 flats for ministers and 230 MLAs' flats along with bungalows and houses for 3480 government officers.

Memorandum submitted to the MLA

The officials of Bhojpal Jan Kalyan and Vikas Samiti submitted a memorandum to Bhopal (South-West) area MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani on Wednesday morning. The members of the delegation appealed to the MLA not to allow the cutting of 29 thousand trees of Shivaji Nagar. The MLA has assured them of taking positive action. A day earlier, the local residents had also submitted a memorandum to Mayor Malti Rai to the same effect.

Vriksha Poojan and Vriksha Bachao Sankalp program will be organized

Committee President Suyash Kulshreshtha said that a Vriksha Poojan and Vriksha Bachao Sankalp program will be organized on June 14 to save the trees from being cut. The citizens of the city are appealed to participate in this program to save the trees from being cut.
