Five Madhya Pradesh MPs Sworn in as Ministers in PM Modi's Cabinet, Scindia and Shivraj in Spotlight



Formation of NDA Government: Following the Lok Sabha election results, the process of constituting the 18th Lok Sabha has commenced. The swearing-in ceremony of Modi Government 3.0 commenced at 7:15 pm on Sunday at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Narendra Modi has been sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time. Alongside him, the ministers appointed to the Modi cabinet have also taken their oaths. Notably, 5 ministers from Madhya Pradesh participated in this swearing-in ceremony.


The Bharatiya Janata Party has done a clean sweep in Madhya Pradesh. Due to this better performance, Madhya Pradesh has got 5 ministerial posts.  Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Savitri Thakur, Virendra Khatik, and Durgadas Uike have all been sworn in and taken the oath of office and secrecy. Let's delve into the backgrounds of these individuals for a better understanding.


Shivraj Singh Chouhan


Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been sworn in as a Union Minister for the first time. Notably, Shivraj has served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for four terms and has been elected as an MP for the sixth time. In the recent election, he secured victory by a margin of over 8 lakh votes against the Congress candidate.


Prior to his political career, Chouhan was actively involved as a worker in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Representing the Vidisha constituency, he has been elected as an MP six times, a seat previously held by prominent leaders such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Before assuming the role of Chief Minister in the state, Shivraj also served as the state president of the party and the national president of BJYM.


Jyotiraditya Scindia


Jyotiraditya Scindia has been sworn in for the second time in the Modi cabinet. Scindia was appointed to the Modi cabinet in 2020 following his defection. In the recent election, Scindia emerged victorious by a margin of approximately 5 lakh votes against Congress candidate Rao Yadvendra Singh. During his previous tenure, Scindia served as the Union Civil Aviation Minister. It will be interesting to see which ministry he will be assigned this time.


Virendra Khatik


Virendra Khatik, who was elected from Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat, has also taken the oath of office and secrecy today. Virendra Kumar Khatik has been continuously elected MP from Sagar Lok Sabha seat from 1996 to 2009. Tikamgarh seat came into existence after delimitation in the year 2009. Since then Virendra Khatik has been elected from Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat.


Savitri Thakur


Savitri Thakur, re-elected for the second time from the Dhar Lok Sabha seat, hails from the tribal community, leading to her inclusion in the Modi cabinet. Thakur secured victory in this election by approximately 2 lakh votes over the Congress candidate. Madhya Pradesh has elected 6 women MPs, with Savitri Thakur being the sole MP from this group to be appointed to the cabinet.


Durgadas Uike


The Betul MP ​​defeated Congress candidate Ramu Tekam from Betul Lok Sabha seat in 2024 by 3 lakh 79 thousand 761 votes. After the bumper victory in Betul, he has been given a place in the cabinet. Uike comes from the Dalit class, so it is believed that he has been included in the cabinet to balance the caste equations.


Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Savitri Thakur, Durgadas Uike from Madhya Pradesh have joined the Union Cabinet for the first time.
