Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024.
After achieving a spectacular victory, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan said, "This is a huge victory as a team and as a country. We have missed this victory a lot in the last two years. We missed by a few runs in the 2022 and 2023 World Cups."

He said, "We are very happy that we went into this match with the playing 11 of the group stage and we also won."
Rashid expressed, "We put in a strong performance. Initially, we aimed for a target of 140 runs on this pitch, but unfortunately, we couldn't conclude the innings as planned. It was a challenging wicket, and we faced difficulties, especially in the final overs."
"The most important thing is that the openers gave us a good start. Because of this, we were able to reach the total we had thought of."
He said that we were confident that we were able to easily defend any score of more than 130. "For us, this is just the beginning, there is a big game ahead. And we are hopeful of reaching the semi-finals."
