Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results: Early Trends Show Congress's Kishori Lal Sharma Leading Over BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi, see details

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results: In early trends, Smriti Irani, the BJP candidate seeking re-election from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, is currently behind Congress candidate Kishori Lal by over 50,000 votes, as reported by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Irani has secured 1,19,069 votes while Kishori Lal Sharma has garnered 1,69,827 votes. On a national level, the BJP-led NDA has surpassed the halfway mark in the ongoing election.

Amethi is considered a key constituency among the 543 Lok Sabha seats, with exit polls anticipating a tight contest between Smriti Irani and Kishori Lal Sharma, a loyalist of the Gandhi family. Early trends suggest that Kishori Lal has surged ahead of the BJP leader in the current election scenario.

Having been a stronghold of the Congress for many years, Smriti Irani secured victory over Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, thereby taking the seat from the grand old party. Tensions arose between the Congress and the BJP following the announcement of Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha candidate from Raebareli, another Congress stronghold. Both Raebareli and Amethi are traditional seats of Gandhi family.

Numerous BJP senior members, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticized the Congress for nominating Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi. They mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had left Amethi, causing concern among the residents of Wayanad, where the former Congress leader is also running for office.

Rahul Gandhi was leading in both Wayanad, Kerala, and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh at the time of writing this report.

According to early leads, the Opposition-led INDIA bloc has edged past BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh in 41 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was trailing state Congress President Ajai Rai for some time, is back in lead now.
