MP: Married Women celebrate Vat Savitri Puja with devotion in Bhopal (In Pics)

Bhopal: The city of Bhopal witnessed a vibrant and heartfelt celebration of Vat Savitri Puja today on Thursday, as married women across the city thronged various temples to perform the traditional rituals. This auspicious occasion, deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, saw a large turnout at several temples, including the renowned Gufa Mandir as well as at Khatlapura Ghat.

From the early hours of the morning, women dressed in vibrant saris and adorned with traditional jewelry gathered at temples, carrying offerings of fruits, flowers, and holy threads. The Gufa Mandir, one of the city's prominent temples, was particularly bustling with activity. Women offered prayers to the deity, seeking blessings for the long life and well-being of their husbands.

A significant part of the Vat Savitri Puja involves worshipping the banyan tree, symbolizing longevity and steadfastness. Women circled the banyan tree at a number of places, tying sacred threads around its trunk while chanting prayers. This ritual, known as 'Parikrama,' is believed to fortify the marital bond and ensure the health and prosperity of their families.

Neha Sharma, a resident of Arera Colony, shared her experience, saying, "Vat Savitri Puja is a day of immense spiritual significance for us. It’s a time to reflect on the strength and dedication of Savitri, whose devotion to her husband Satyavan is a timeless inspiration. Performing the rituals at Gufa Mandir with so many other women creates a powerful sense of community and shared faith."

The legend of Savitri and Satyavan, which underpins this festival, narrates the tale of Savitri's unwavering devotion that brought her husband back from the clutches of death. This story of love and fidelity is celebrated by married women who fast and pray for their husbands' longevity.

Priests at temples performed special aartis and distributed prasad to the devotees, marking the culmination of the day's rituals. The temple premises were beautifully decorated with marigold flowers and illuminated with oil lamps, creating a serene and festive ambiance.

As the sun set, the city resonated with hymns and chants, echoing the devotion of the women who had come together to honor their tradition and pray for their loved ones. The celebration of Vat Savitri Puja in Bhopal was a testament to the enduring faith and cultural heritage that continues to thrive in the heart of India.
