This new tiger reserve encompasses the regions of Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Sanctuary, which are located in the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Koriya, Surajpur, and Balrampur districts. The Forest and Climate Change Department has been tasked with taking the necessary steps to implement its establishment.
Guru Ghasidas National Park is the home of Tiger, Leopard, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Jackal, Sambar, Four-horned Antelope etc., while Tigers, Elephants, Leopards, Bears, Sambar Deer, Blue Bulls, Chital, Bison and many such animals are found in Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary.
Boost to eco-tourism
The creation of the Tiger Reserve is expected to boost eco-tourism in the state and generate various employment opportunities for local residents in the core and buffer zones. Potential jobs may include roles as guides, drivers for tourist vehicles, and operations within resorts. Additionally, the National Project Tiger Authority will provide extra funding to support new livelihood development initiatives in the villages surrounding the reserve.
