Chhattisgarh's first Cow Sanctuary comes up in Bemetara's Jhalam, know why it is unique, when will CM Vishnu Deo Sai open it?

Bemetara: Chhattisgarh's first Cow Sanctuary has been established on a 72-acre site along the Bemetara-Nawagarh Road, with a construction cost of Rs. 6 crore 57 lakh. Located in Jhalam village, this sanctuary is notable for several reasons.

Firstly, it holds the distinction of being the first Cow Sanctuary in the state. Secondly, preparations for its construction began in 2015, and after approximately nine years, it is now complete. This project is recognized as one of the ambitious initiatives of the BJP government and is set to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Currently, the sheds constructed in the Jhalam Gau Sanctuary can accommodate 180 cattle. Staff members have been assigned to care for the cattle, including three veterinarians responsible for their health. Additionally, eight MGRENGA workers have been hired for this purpose. The newly built sheds have the capacity to house 200 milk-producing cows, along with space for 144 regular cattle and 344 other types of cattle.

Dr. Rajendra Bhagat, Deputy Director, Veterinarian Department, said currently, 180 cattle are kept in the sheds built here. The Cow Sanctuary has a capacity to keep a total of 144 normal and 344 other cattle. All the cattle are taken proper care of here. Medical facilities are also available, he said.

Gau Seva Aayog is taking care

The Gau Seva Aayog is making arrangements to provide straw to the cattle living in Jhalam Cow Sanctuary. Pasture has also been created to provide green fodder to the cattle. Additionally, pasture has been established to supply green fodder for the cattle. The initiative aims to conserve and promote the Kaushali cow within the sanctuary. As part of the plan, native Kaushali calves were intended to be distributed to cattle farmers after a 36-month period, but this aspect of the scheme has not yet been implemented. After nine years, there is renewed hope that the existing facilities in the sanctuary will lead to the completion of these long-standing initiatives.

Inauguration by CM

Ranbir Sharma, Collector, Bemetaram said CM Vishnu Deo Sai's visit is proposed in this month. We have held a meeting here regarding the CM's visit. We have held meetings three times before this as well. The preparations for the CM's visit to Jhalam when he will reach Bemetara are being given a concrete shape, he said.

The CM is going to visit the Jhalam Cow Sanctuary in the month of August itself. The CM will inaugurate this sanctuary during the proposed visit. The district administration has also started preparations in view of the CM's visit. Helipads are being built in Jhalam. The collector himself has held a meeting with the department officials regarding the CM's visit.
