The Uttar Pradesh government's bill on Nazul land is in the headlines. This bill was passed in the assembly but after being presented in the Legislative Council, it has been sent to the Select Committee.
Internal conflict within the government regarding this bill was seen inside the House. In the Legislative Council, BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary himself proposed to send it to the committee, which was accepted by the Chairman.
The bill was presented in the Assembly by Keshav Prasad Maurya. However, before this, in a meeting between the Chief Minister and the two Deputy Chief Ministers, all the apprehensions regarding the bill were discussed.
BJP MLAs Harsh Bajpai and Siddharthnath Singh had expressed their objection in the Assembly. Apart from this, government ally and Union Minister Anupriya Patel also opposed it.
The government had to face trouble when its own people started opposing this bill. On the other hand, Congress had threatened that the party would take to the streets against this bill.
With the implementation of this bill, Nazul land cannot be made freehold.
Harsh Bajpai, BJP MLA from Allahabad, says, “What will happen to those who have been living on these lands since the British period? Many people have been living here for 100 years. On one hand, the Prime Minister is giving housing, on the other hand, they are taking away our land. This is not fair.”
Another BJP MLA Siddharth Nath Singh said that the government should pay attention to the suggestion and give an opportunity to renew the lease.
Critics say that through this bill, the government wants to regulate the Nazul land which is under the government but is not directly under the government's management. Through the bill, the government wants to stop its transfer.
In this bill, the government has the right to extend the lease of those whose rent is being deposited on time, so that the government will have control over it.
Those who have deposited money for free hold will be refunded the money along with interest which will be according to SBI.
Even if the rent of the leased land is being deposited and the conditions are being followed, the government can take back the land when the lease ends.
The ownership of the Nazul land will not be given to anyone, but will only be used for public purposes.
Anupriya Patel of the government's ally Nishad Party and Apna Dal (S) have also opposed the bill.
Anupriya Patel wrote on Instagram that, "The bill related to Nazul land has been sent to the Select Committee of the Legislative Council for discussion today." Patel demanded that this bill should be withdrawn and action should be taken against the officials.
Samajwadi Party is demanding withdrawal of this bill. Samajwadi Party says that this bill is anti-people.
UP BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary stated that there was no consensus regarding the Nazul bill. He mentioned that he lacks detailed information about the bill, but noted that public suggestions were received in the Legislative Council. This comment is perceived as a significant critique of Yogi's administration, highlighting the lack of agreement on the bill, which has consequently been referred to the Select Committee.
On the other hand, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya commented that the Nazul land bill has already been passed in the Legislative Assembly and is now with the Legislative Council, from where it has been sent to the Select Committee.
One of the many reasons for BJP's defeat in Ayodhya was Nazul land. Some political analysts suggest that a significant portion of the land along Ram Path and Parikrama Marg is categorized as Nazul land. They indicate that during the acquisition process, this land was designated as government property.
While those whose homes were demolished for widening received compensation for their structures, they did not receive compensation for the land itself. As the houses were older, the compensation amounts were reduced, leading to voter discontent towards the BJP and increased opposition in various areas.
