Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Visit Wayanad After Devastating Landslide; What Rahul Said

Following a devastating landslide in Wayanad, former MP Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, visited the affected area. Addressing the media, Rahul expressed his admiration for the rescue workers, stating, "I feel proud of all those who are doing rescue work here. For me, this is definitely a national disaster, but let's see what the government says on this."

Rahul emphasized the need for immediate aid over political discourse, saying, "I think now is the time to help the people and not politics. Now is the time to ensure that all those who are in shock get medical help."

Rahul further reiterated his commitment to the welfare of Wayanad's residents, adding, "I am not interested in doing politics on this issue at all. Rather, my interest is in the people of Wayanad and their well-being."

Reflecting on the tragedy, Rahul shared his personal grief, comparing the loss to his own father's death. "I am feeling the same feeling seeing this tragedy as I felt at the time of my father's death. Many people here have not only lost their father but many people's entire family has been destroyed," he said.

Rahul also highlighted the national support Wayanad has received during this crisis. "I am proud that many people are standing with Wayanad. Even the whole country's attention is on Wayanad at this time," he stated. The landslide, which struck between Monday and Tuesday night, claimed the lives of 178 people, including 81 men, 71 women, and 26 children, with many still missing.

In response to the disaster, 88 relief camps have been established, providing shelter to 8,627 individuals. The landslides, which occurred between 1 and 4 am on Monday and Tuesday night, caused massive destruction in areas such as Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad.
