West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a jab at Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding his son, Jay Shah, becoming the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee wrote, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, congratulations to you! Your son did not become a political leader but became the Chairman of the ICC. This is a much more important post than the posts of many political leaders. Your son has really become much more powerful. I really congratulate you for this great achievement of his."
Jay Shah, currently the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to assume the role of ICC Chairman, making him the youngest cricket administrator to hold the position at just 35 years old. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time someone under the age of 57 will occupy the top post at the ICC.
Historically, the ICC's leadership has been held by people much older. The first ICC President, Colin Cowdrey, was 57 when he took office in 1989. Since then, 11 other people have served as President or Chairman. The title of ICC Chairman was introduced in 2014, starting with N Srinivasan. Jay Shah will be the fourth person to hold this position since its inception.
