In the last 24 hours, 8 people lost their lives due to storm and rain in Mumbai and Gujarat. Mumbai received more than 3.9 inches of rain in 5 hours on Wednesday evening. Roads were flooded and people got stuck in traffic jams.
14 flights had to be diverted at Mumbai airport. 4 people lost their lives, among them a woman died after falling into a manhole. There is a red alert for heavy rain in entire Maharashtra including Mumbai today.
Schools and colleges have been closed in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally was to be held in Pune, but it has been cancelled due to waterlogging on the ground.
Storm at speed of 110 km in Vadodara, 4 die
5 cm of rainfall occurred in 2 hours on Wednesday evening in Surat, Gujarat. Canals were flooded in Kadarsa and Sangrampura areas. Children got stuck in schools, who were rescued by fire brigade. There is no possibility of relief from rain in Gujarat for the next four days.
There was rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in Vadodara on Wednesday late evening around 6 pm. Also, the storm that came at a speed of 110 km per hour knocked down more than 300 trees. 57 electricity poles also fell. Dozens of hoardings flew in the air. 4 people have been reported dead due to the storm. One of them is a 24-year-old civil engineer youth.
Konark Sun Temple flooded
It has been raining in many areas of Odisha for the last 24 hours. Schools have been closed in Puri. The campus of Konark Sun Temple was flooded. Pumps have been installed to remove water from the temple campus.
One killed in cloudburst in Himachal, rain in MP-UP too
One person died due to cloudburst caused by heavy rains in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. 71 roads including NH-707 are closed due to rain in the state since Wednesday evening.
Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh received 9.5 cm of rain in 9 hours on Wednesday. It also rained in 21 districts including Bhopal and Indore. In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, many areas were flooded with two to three feet of water due to rain. The city's registry office was also flooded.
IMD said that the departure of southwest monsoon from Rajasthan starts on September 17. This time it was delayed by a week i.e. on September 23. Due to this, monsoon is unlikely to withdraw before October 10-12 in Pune and Mumbai. Usually the withdrawal of monsoon from Maharashtra happens around October 5.
