Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav purchases Diyas from shop of Sunil and Lucky Prajapati

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, while promoting “Vocal for Local”, on the occasion of Dhanteras, bought earthen lamps (diyas) and the idols of Ganesh and Laxmi from artisans Sunil and Lucky Prajapati and Bablu Prajapati, who set up earthen lamp shops near T.T. Nagar Stadium in Bhopal and inquired about their well-being. Sunil, Lucky and Bablu Prajapati have expressed gratitude to CM Dr. Yadav for exempting street vendors from market fee during festivals.

Later in an interaction with the media CM said that from Dhanteras to Ekadashi, market fee will not be charged from street vendors in all urban and rural areas. In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this will also encourage “Vocal for Local”.

In a positive move, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has decided to exempt those selling local products in both urban and rural areas from market taxes or fees during the period from Dhanteras to Devuthani Ekadashi, a decision that has been well-received by small business owners.

Vasu Kumar from Narsinghpur highlights that many potter families continue their ancestral craft, creating colorful earthen pots, rangoli, idols, piggy banks, karbe, and diyas. Notably, these items are sold at affordable prices. He appreciates that the Narsinghpur district administration has facilitated their work by providing designated spaces in key market areas for selling these earthen products, while also waiving any associated taxes.

Rohit Chakraborty, also from Narsinghpur, mentioned that artisans often have to travel to distant markets on motorcycles, handcarts, and bicycles to sell their clay products. He said that Chinese lights and diyas have begun to overshadow traditional clay diyas in the market.

However, he commended the appeals made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to support local products, encouraging consumers to purchase from local artisans. This initiative not only helps preserve ancestral heritage and indigenous products but also ensures that potters receive fair compensation for their craftsmanship. Additionally, clay diyas and utensils play a significant role in nature conservation.
