BRICS Summit: PM Modi said: we don't support war, our approach must remain people centric

Two BRICS meetings were held in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is no place for double standards on terrorism. He said that BRICS countries will have to come together and fight it. He also talked about reform in the UNSC. He said that India is ready to welcome new countries in BRICS.

PM Modi said our meeting is taking place at a time, when the world is facing several pressing challenges such as wars, economic uncertainty, climate change and terrorism. The world is talking about the North South divide and the East West divide.

Modi said in this era of technology, new challenges have emerged such as cyber deepfake, disinformation.

At such a time, there are high expectations of BRICS. I believe that as a diverse and inclusive platform, BRICS can play a positive role in all areas.

In this regard, our approach must remain people centric. We have to give the world the message that BRICS is not a divisive organisation but one that works in the interest of humanity.

Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping shortly. After the announcement to reduce tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), bilateral talks will be held between the two. This will be the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders after the Galwan clash in 2020.

The PM said we support dialogue and diplomacy, not war. And just as we were able to overcome a challenge like COVID together, we are certainly able to create new opportunities to ensure a secure, strong and prosperous future for future generations.

PM Modi will address the open plenary meeting shortly. After this, he will also hold bilateral talks with the leaders of many countries. PM will leave for India today itself.

Modi reached Kazan on Tuesday afternoon to join BRICS. He met Russian President Putin at night. Modi also invited Putin to come to India for the annual summit next year.

On Tuesday itself, Putin hosted dinner for the leaders of BRICS countries. Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the musical concert along with Putin.
