In response to a recent report from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aditya Thackeray has demanded answers from the Union Government on the growing concerns of illegal immigration in Mumbai. Speaking to media, Thackeray emphasized that the Home Minister needs to address the findings. He pointed out that the security of the nation is a fundamental responsibility of the Central Government.
Aditya Thackeray stated, "First of all, it is necessary for the Home Minister to respond to this. The responsibility of the country’s security lies with the Central Government. The Union Minister should answer how people from Bangladesh entered Mumbai."
The TISS report has raised alarms by asserting a steady rise in the number of illegal immigrants residing in Mumbai, including people reportedly from Bangladesh and Myanmar. According to TISS, this influx of migrants is causing significant social, political, and economic disruptions in the city.
Continuing his remarks, Aditya Thackeray called attention to what he sees as a failure on the part of the Central Government to manage border security and control immigration. He said these concerns reflect on the broader national security apparatus.
Aditya said, "The TISS report has made allegations against our country’s soldiers; the Home Minister should respond to them. This report has come at a time when doubts are being raised about it. First, tell whether these are the results of the failure of the Central Government?"
The TISS report’s findings have intensified political debate in Maharashtra, especially given the heightened concerns around illegal immigration’s impact on Mumbai. Thackeray’s call for accountability seeks to direct attention to the Union Government’s role in preventing unauthorized migration and maintaining national security.
