Amit Shah's speech: Political war of words intensifies between BJP and Cong; why X sent notice to grand old party?

A controversy has erupted over the sharing of video clips of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's speech in Parliament by Congress leaders. X has sent a notice to Congress leaders directing them to remove the content. This notice has been cited as an instruction received from the Cyber Crime Coordination Center (MHA) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, this notice has not been officially confirmed by X and MHA.

According to the Congress, in its letter, X has also said that it strongly believes in the freedom of speech and expression of its users through this platform. Some Congress MPs and leaders had shared a video clip of Shah's reply in the discussion on the journey of 75 glorious years of the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Notice is unconstitutional

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate termed the notice as unconstitutional and said that the video that has been shared is a documentary part of Amit Shah's statement in Parliament. She said, "We have not made any edits. The BJP is the one that disseminates edited videos. We are not intimidated by such threats."

She further emphasized, "We have done nothing wrong. You reached out to Twitter (X) requesting the removal of our statements and are now sending us emails. The IT Ministry and the Home Ministry are involved—are there no more pressing issues in the country than this?"

Amit Shah's statement

During a discussion in the Rajya Sabha commemorating the 75-year journey of the Constitution, Amit Shah made a remark directed at the opposition, stating, "It has become a trend to invoke Ambedkar repeatedly. If you were to mention the names of God as often, you would earn a place in heaven for seven lifetimes."

Congress strongly opposed this statement.

BJP's counterattack

The BJP accused the Congress of presenting Amit Shah's statement in the wrong context. Amit Shah said in a press conference on Wednesday that his comments were being distorted and shared.

This controversy is further intensifying the political war of words between the BJP and the Congress. Congress leaders say that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the opposition by taking such action.
