Mumbai Boat Accident: 13 Die After Ferry On Way From Gateway of India to Elephanta Island capsizes


13 people have died after a passenger ferry going from Mumbai's Gateway of India area to Elephanta Island capsized.


Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media that 13 people have died in this incident. Fadnavis informed the media about this incident in Nagpur.


Among the dead are 10 civilians and three Navy personnel. All the 101 people rescued in the rescue operation have been admitted to various hospitals. The condition of four of them is critical. CM Fadnavis has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. The CM has ordered an inquiry into this incident.


The CM said, "A passenger boat named Neelkamal was hit by a Navy boat at 3:55 pm. 101 people have been rescued. 13 people have died including three Navy personnel. Two other people are seriously injured, who are being treated in the Navy hospital."


According to the information, there were about 80 people on the ferry. After the accident, the rescue team has reached the spot. The rescue operation includes the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Police and local fishermen.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on Twitter, "I am deeply saddened by the many deaths due to the collision between the passenger ferry and the Indian Navy craft in Mumbai Harbor. The Navy personnel injured in the accident and all the other people on both the boats are undergoing treatment. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. An extensive search and rescue operation is underway by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard to locate the missing people."
