Bhopal Gas Tragedy Anniversary: ​​Vishwas Sarang leads in paying tribute to gas victims at BMHRC, Sarvadharma Sabha to be held on Dec 3


Bhopal: On the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, on Monday, 2 December 2024, tribute was paid to the deceased of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy by lighting candles. In this program organized, Sports, Youth and Cooperative Minister in the Madhya Pradesh Government Vishwas Kailash Sarang, Mayor Mrs. Malti Rai and BMHRC Director-in-charge Dr. Manisha Srivastava along with the hospital staff and students paid tribute to the deceased of the gas tragedy with moist eyes and observed two minutes of silence.


On Tuesday, as the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC) marks its 25th anniversary, the Postal Department will issue a special cover. Additionally, a Sarvadharma Sabha will be held to honor elderly gas victims.


Health kits distributed


After lighting the candles on Monday, Vishwas Sarang and the Mayor distributed health kits to the patients admitted in the hospital. Later, health kits were distributed to the patients admitted in all the wards. On this occasion, Sarang said that the gas tragedy that happened on the night of 2 and 3 December is horrific for the entire humanity. 


Sarang said this tragedy taught us that development and industrialization have their own importance, but it should not be bigger than the life of any person. What happened that night is horrific for the entire humanity. He told that I and my family were also trapped on that terrible night of the gas tragedy and we too had to leave our house like other people.


Sarvadharma Sabha will be organized, elderly gas victims will be honoured


Sarvadharma Sabha (all religion meeting) will be organised near the Shraddhanjali and Asha memorial of BMHRC from 8:30 am on 3 December. During this, religious leaders of all religions will recite their scriptures. After this, elderly gas victims above 85 years of age will be honoured.



Health camps will be organised 


Apart from this, health camps will be organised in all the health centres of BMHRC with the cooperation of the Health Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. In these camps, health checkup of people, free checkup and medicine distribution, screening of non-communicable diseases will be done. 


Abha and Ayushman IDs will be made in the camps. Blankets have also been donated for poor patients by organizations Rotary Club and Mahavir International, which will be distributed in the wards.


Unveiling of special cover by Postal Dept


BMHRC has recently entered the 25th year of its establishment. On the 40th anniversary of the gas tragedy, a special cover will be released by the Indian Postal Department to mark this contribution of the institution. On this occasion, Chief Post Master General of MP Circle Vineet Mathur, Head of Postal Services Pawan Kumar Dalmia and Director-in-Charge of BMHRC Dr. Manisha Srivastava will be present.


1.06 crore visits have been made to BMHRC so far


BMHRC and all its health centers have received 1.06 crore visits by patients since the year 2000, out of which 98 percent are gas victims or dependents of gas victims. Nearly 64 lakh patients have visited the health centres. Nearly 3.92 lakh gas victims are registered in the hospital, while 61725 gas victims dependent patients are registered.
