BJP MP Pratap Sarangi sustained injuries during a heated protest involving opposition parties, sparking a fresh wave of accusations and counter-accusations. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey directly blamed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the incident. Speaking to reporters, Dubey alleged that Rahul Gandhi's behavior during the altercation was akin to that of a "hooligan." He further accused Gandhi of pushing an elderly BJP MP, causing him to fall.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of protests in the Parliament premises. The Congress and opposition parties were demonstrating against Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar. Simultaneously, BJP members protested what they termed as an insult to the Constitution maker by the main opposition party. The protests escalated into a physical scuffle, with BJP alleging that Rahul Gandhi's actions in the Lok Sabha led to MP Pratap Sarangi's head injury.
Rahul Gandhi refuted these allegations
Rahul Gandhi, however, refuted these allegations and presented a different narrative. He claimed that BJP MPs had obstructed his entry into Parliament and resorted to physical intimidation. "I was trying to go inside, but BJP MPs were blocking my way and threatening me," Gandhi stated. Emphasizing the broader issue, Gandhi said, "The core matter is the insult to the Constitution and Babasaheb Ambedkar's memory."
Notably, Gandhi, who is often seen in his signature white T-shirt, appeared in Parliament on Thursday wearing a blue T-shirt. His attire choice was seen as symbolic amid the contentious protests.
This altercation has intensified the already fraught relations between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides accusing each other of disrespecting parliamentary decorum and democratic principles. The incident underscores the charged atmosphere in Indian politics, with debates increasingly spilling over into personal and physical confrontations.
