Rajya Sabha Speaker Reports Discovery of Cash Bundle at Congress MP's Seat, What Abhishek Manu Singhvi Said?

Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar has reported the discovery of a bundle of cash notes from the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. This announcement was made at the beginning of the House proceedings on Friday.

Dhankhar stated, "I wish to inform you that yesterday (Thursday), following the adjournment of the House, a routine security check was conducted in which security officials discovered a bundle of notes at seat number 222."

This seat is currently occupied by Singhvi, who represents Telangana for the term spanning 2024 to 2026. The Speaker noted that upon learning of the situation, he deemed it necessary to initiate an investigation in accordance with legal protocols, which is currently underway.

Very strange occurrence: Singhvi

In response, Singhvi expressed his "surprise" regarding the incident, labeling it as a "very strange occurrence." He shared a video on his X handle discussing the matter with journalists, stating, "I arrived at the Rajya Sabha at 12:57 PM, and the House was adjourned at 1 PM. After that, I was in the canteen until 1:30 PM, and returned afterward."

Singhvi emphasized that his overall presence in the House that day was merely three to four minutes, expressing disbelief that political motives were being attributed to such an issue. Singhvi suggested that there should be a mechanism to lock the seats of Members of Parliament, allowing them to retain the key, to prevent any allegations arising from items placed under their seats.
