Delhi Election 2025: Arvind Kejriwal’s comments about voters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in Delhi have sparked a sharp backlash from the BJP and Congress. Leaders from these parties have slammed Kejriwal, accusing him of undermining the contributions of people from these states who reside in the national capital.
While BJP termed the statement as divisive and disrespectful, Congress leaders joined in condemning the remarks, emphasizing the unity and diversity of Delhi's population. The controversy has further fueled political tensions, with both parties accusing Kejriwal of alienating a significant section of voters ahead of upcoming elections.
Giriraj Singh said, "Kejriwal ji, who himself is fake and deceitful, tells the people of Bihar, UP and Purvanchal that they buy tickets worth Rs. 500 and get treatment worth Rs. 5 lakhs."
"He (Kejriwal) bites the hand that feeds him. He cheated Anna Hazare, cheated Delhi. He cheated the people of Bihar, UP and Purvanchal, cheated the people who travel in tempo and three wheelers."
Giriraj Singh said, "He (Kejriwal) does not keep his words and is calling the people of UP, Bihar and Purvanchal fake."
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said in a press conference on Friday, "It is sad to see how attempts are being made to defame my Delhi. The kind of language the three-time Chief Minister is using, it seems that he has lost his mental balance."
Kejriwal began seeking another constituency: Alka Lamba
On the other hand, Congress leader Alka Lamba remarked, "Kejriwal ji previously mentioned that he is providing numerous facilities in hospitals here. But he claims that people from UP and Bihar come to Delhi and usurp the rights of original residents."
She continued, "Currently, there are one crore fifty-five lakh voters in Delhi. Kejriwal ji appears to be quite anxious, as he began seeking another constituency to contest election after noticing minor fluctuations in voter numbers. He is now on the lookout for an additional seat to secure his position and maintain his power."
What Kejriwal had said?
Recently, Arvind Kejriwal met with officials from the Election Commission. Following the meeting, he spoke to the media regarding the voters from UP and Bihar in Delhi.
Kejriwal stated, "From December 15 to yesterday (January 8), there have been 13 thousand new voter applications. In the small assembly of New Delhi, which has around one lakh voters, 13 thousand applications for new voter registrations have been submitted in the past 15 days. It is evident that they are attempting to create fraudulent votes by bringing people from UP, Bihar, and surrounding states."
