A major Naxalite attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, has resulted in the deaths of eight security personnel and their driver. Sources told that the District Reserve Guard (DRG) members were returning to their base camp after an encounter in Narayanpur when the incident occurred.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to the attack. He expressed his determination to eradicate Naxalism from the country by March 2026. He said that the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers will not be in vain. Sharing his condolences on the social media platform X, Shah said, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the martyrdom of DRG personnel in an IED blast in Bijapur. It is impossible to express this grief in words, but I assure you that the sacrifice of our soldiers will not go in vain."
This incident marks the biggest attack on security forces in the state in the past two years. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao condemned the attack, labeling it a "cowardly act" by the Naxalites. He expressed confidence that the martyrdom of the soldiers would not be in vain. Sao predicted a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh and Bastar region in the near future.
The central government is actively working towards eliminating Naxalism by 2026. Last month, during a visit to Chhattisgarh, Amit Shah highlighted the previous year's achievements. He said that security forces had killed 287 Naxalites, arrested 1,000, and facilitated the surrender of 837 Naxalites. Both the central and Chhattisgarh governments are implementing policies aimed at encouraging Naxalites to surrender.
